Today we went over to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. It is the reason we are currently in camp at Ajo, AZ. Just outside of Ajo, on the way, is a green highway sign that says Why, 10 miles. It is the name of the next small town.
The adorable and funny lady to my right starts a dialogue. "Where do you live?", "Why.", "Oh, sorry I'm not meaning to be nosy, just making conversation", "That's OK, Why.", "Well, I just wondered what brought you here.", "Why."....and it went on from there.
Turns out, the town is at the Y shaped intersection of two state highways and state law said, at the time of the town's incorporation, that a town name needed to be at least three letters. They wanted to call it Y.
Here's the sign as you get to it.
